Ellen, you are spot-on. It is amazing how many solo practitioners or small firms do not monitor their names, firm names or local legal topics through Yahoo or Google Alerts. The news is delivered right into your email Inbox allowing attorneys to keep a strong pulse on things. This is a great way to remain aware of what’s happening around you and how you can remain engaged and ready to manage relationships, reputation and firm/personal brand. The only drawback is the lack of social media monitoring those types of alerts can provide but there are cost effective tracking tools that can reach social platforms if lawyers need it.

Thanks for commenting. I enjoyed the article “How to remove bad reviews online” on the referenced website. The title was kind of a misleading, since there was no way identified to actually remove comments. But I believe the strategy of trying to bury the offending review by solicitating clients to write newer positive reviews to be creative.

It’s unnerving to think of the power negative online reviews have over people’s careers. What’s even more disappointing is that a reputation that has taken years to build, can be tainted by one bad review even if its one with no real basis. The unfortunate part is that fighting back with litigation only makes matters worse.
